Campfire is the AI-native ERP (enterprise resource planning system) at campfire.ai. It journalizes tax cleanly. It does not compute it. Campfire’s own integrations directory carries a Sales Tax category with exactly five partners: Anrok, Avalara, Numeral, Sphere and Taxwire.
So your ERP has already told you to pick a tax vendor. This post helps you pick one. Commenda is the best choice for multi-entity, multi-currency SaaS (software as a service) companies, Anrok is the runner-up for US-first SaaS, and Sphere is the fastest native partner to stand up. The full ranking is below.
Does Campfire calculate sales tax on its own?
No. Campfire records tax computed elsewhere. Its five partners calculate the number, Campfire journalizes tax collected and tax payable by jurisdiction, and on filing the partner’s remittance syncs back and clears the liability. Campfire stores partner tax keys on its own records, including avalara_tax_code, anrok_item_id and vat_number.
Campfire does have user-defined tax rates applied manually. Its January 2026 product update added bulk application of a sales tax or VAT rate across selected transactions, for imports from systems that do not calculate tax. A person picks the rate. That is rate selection, not determination. Campfire has no nexus tracking, no jurisdiction rate table and no tax module.
How does AI tax software for Campfire compare at a glance?
Ten vendors serve Campfire users well. Five sit inside Campfire’s Sales Tax integration category and connect today. The other five cover ground those five do not, and connect through billing data or an API. Ratings come from G2, verified September 2026. One vendor publishes no computed G2 rating.

Which is the best AI tax software for Campfire in 2026?
Commenda is the best choice for most Campfire users. Campfire sells to companies with multi-entity operations and lean finance teams, and supports 180+ currencies and unlimited entities (campfire.ai). Commenda matches that shape. It monitors nexus, registers entities, files returns and remits across all 50 US states and 70+ countries.
1. Commenda
Commenda is a global indirect tax platform covering the full lifecycle. It is not in Campfire’s Sales Tax category, so it connects through Commenda’s own Campfire integration and REST API.
Strengths:
- Monitors economic and physical nexus in all 50 US states, EU member states and 70+ countries, alerting before you cross a threshold.
- Registers and files VAT (value added tax), GST (goods and services tax) and US sales tax, including EU OSS (One Stop Shop) and IOSS (Import One Stop Shop).
- 100+ integrations plus a REST API, so transaction data feeds tax without CSV uploads.
- Replaces 3 to 5 vendors on average, in roughly 30 days to operational.
Weaknesses:
- A US-only seller with a single sales channel and no international plans may be adequately served by a narrower point solution.
Best for: Multi-entity, multi-currency SaaS companies that owe tax in more than one country.
Rating: 4.7/5 on G2.
2. Anrok
Anrok has the deepest hooks into Campfire’s data model, storing anrok_item_id on Products and anrok_customer_id on invoices. Campfire’s Anrok integration post says Anrok applies the correct rates to every invoice created in Campfire.
Strengths:
- Covers 11,000+ US jurisdictions including home-rule cities, and 150+ countries (anrok.com).
- Handles nexus monitoring, registration, calculation, filing and remittance (anrok.com).
- Multi-state nexus tracking is what Campfire itself points to Anrok for, and resale exemptions apply through the integration.
Weaknesses:
- Built around software and digital sales. Physical goods, customs and duty sit outside its focus.
Best for: US-first SaaS companies wanting the tightest native integration.
Rating: 4.5/5 on G2.
3. Sphere
Sphere is an AI-first indirect tax vendor in Campfire’s Sales Tax category. It runs monitoring, registration, calculation and filing as one workflow, and journalizes into Campfire automatically (campfire.ai).
Strengths:
- Covers 100+ tax authorities and 100+ regions for sales tax, VAT and GST (getsphere.com).
- Claims setup in under 24 hours via billing integrations (getsphere.com).
- Runs its own Tax Review and Assessment Model, trained on tax code (getsphere.com).
Weaknesses:
- States coverage in regions and authorities rather than jurisdictions, so US local depth is hard to judge against Anrok’s 11,000+ or Avalara’s 12,000+.
Best for: Campfire users who want a working integration in days, not weeks.
Rating: 5.0/5 on G2.
4. Avalara
Avalara is the broadest and oldest vendor in Campfire’s list. Campfire stores avalara_tax_code and avalara_item_id on Product records, using SW052000 as its example SaaS code, and supports a sandbox for testing.
Strengths:
- Calculates across 12,000+ US sales and use tax jurisdictions and 190+ countries (avalara.com).
- 1,400+ signed partner integrations, backed by more than 20 years of tax content (avalara.com).
- Covers returns, registration, exemption certificates, e-invoicing and cross-border duty (avalara.com).
Weaknesses:
- The breadth carries implementation weight. Lean finance teams usually need outside help to configure it.
- Its 4.0/5 G2 rating trails Anrok and Sphere among Campfire’s native partners.
Best for: Companies selling both software and physical goods.
Rating: 4.0/5 on G2.
5. Numeral
Numeral is a full-lifecycle sales tax vendor in Campfire’s Sales Tax category. Its tax data syncs to Campfire and liabilities journalize automatically every period (campfire.ai).
Strengths:
- Indirect tax compliance across 70+ countries, used by 3,000+ businesses (numeral.com).
- Covers nexus monitoring, registration, filing, remittance and exemption certificates (numeral.com).
- Guarantees on-time filing or pays your penalties and interest (numeral.com).
Weaknesses:
- Its 3.8/5 G2 rating is the lowest in this list.
- Publishes country counts rather than jurisdiction-level coverage, so US local depth is hard to compare.
Best for: Campfire users wanting US and international coverage from one vendor.
Rating: 3.8/5 on G2.
6. Taxwire
Taxwire calls itself a sales tax platform and a managed service in one (taxwire.com). Software calculates, a tax team owns the judgment calls, and the data journalizes into Campfire automatically (campfire.ai).
Strengths:
- Starts with a full nexus study, taxability research and a compliance audit (taxwire.com).
- Handles registrations and back-filings state by state, then autofiles returns (taxwire.com).
- Remits roughly $100M a year across more than 22,000 US tax jurisdictions, and raised $25M in June 2026 (alleywatch.com).
Weaknesses:
- Publishes no jurisdiction or country coverage numbers, so scope must be confirmed in a sales call.
- Its G2 profile sits under Corporate Tax Software rather than Sales Tax and VAT Compliance, and carries no computed G2 rating.
- The managed-service model keeps a person in the loop, which scales differently from software.
Best for: Campfire users who want filing owned outside the finance team.
Rating: Rating not verified at time of writing.
7. Kintsugi
Kintsugi is an AI-native sales tax platform with strong nexus tooling. It is not in Campfire’s Sales Tax category, so you connect it through billing data or the API.
Strengths:
- Monitors sales tax, VAT and GST exposure across the US and 100+ countries (trykintsugi.com).
- Tracks physical and economic nexus in real time, including click-through nexus (trykintsugi.com).
- Launched in the United Kingdom, Turkey, UAE, Kenya, Nigeria, Armenia and China in March 2026 (trykintsugi.com).
Weaknesses:
- No native Campfire integration, so postings must be wired up by hand.
Best for: Campfire users who want nexus visibility first.
Rating: 4.6/5 on G2.
8. Fonoa
Fonoa is built for global digital businesses, connecting tax ID validation, determination, e-invoicing and returns on one platform. It is strongest where exposure sits outside the United States, and Campfire does not list it.
Strengths:
- Validates tax IDs across 120+ countries in real time (fonoa.com).
- Calculates VAT, GST and sales tax across 100+ jurisdictions, sub-200ms (fonoa.com).
- Covers e-invoicing across 150+ countries as mandates spread (fonoa.com).
Weaknesses:
- No native Campfire integration.
- Publishes no US coverage at jurisdiction level, so US-heavy sellers should compare carefully.
Best for: Campfire users whose exposure is mostly international.
Rating: 4.6/5 on G2.
9. Vertex
Vertex is the enterprise tax engine. It has been in the market more than 40 years, serves 4,500 companies and counts 60% of the Fortune 500 as customers (vertexinc.com). Campfire does not list it.
Strengths:
- Covers 195 countries and 20,000+ jurisdictions, with a billion-plus governed rates and rules (vertexinc.com).
- Combines tax determination, returns, e-invoicing, exemption certificates and audit readiness (vertexinc.com).
- Integrates with SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, Workday, NetSuite and Shopify (vertexinc.com).
Weaknesses:
- No native Campfire integration.
- Scaled for enterprise tax departments, not lean Campfire finance teams.
Best for: Campfire users with an in-house tax function.
Rating: 4.4/5 on G2.
10. Sovos
Sovos focuses on global e-invoicing and continuous transaction controls alongside indirect tax. It is strongest where governments mandate real-time invoice reporting. Campfire does not list it.
Strengths:
- Covers roughly 200 countries (sovos.com).
- Used by 100,000+ companies, processing 16 billion transactions last fiscal year (sovos.com).
Weaknesses:
- No native Campfire integration.
- Centred on regulated e-invoicing, so a software-only seller pays for unused breadth.
Best for: Campfire users facing e-invoicing mandates in Latin America or Europe.
Rating: 4.2/5 on G2.
Which other tax tools are worth watching?
Two more rate well in G2’s Sales Tax and VAT Compliance category, and neither is in Campfire’s list. Zamp rates 4.7/5 on G2 and runs US sales tax as a managed service. Quaderno rates 4.7/5 on G2 and targets smaller digital sellers. Both need a custom Campfire connection.
Do Campfire users need a separate VAT vendor?
Yes, if you sell into the EU or other VAT countries. Campfire supports 180+ currencies and unlimited entities (campfire.ai), and lets each legal entity relabel “Tax ID” as “VAT Number” or “GST Number” on invoices. That is field labelling, not determination, registration or filing. A 2024 Campfire post mentions VAT automation, but no current product page or API documents it.
Under the EU One Stop Shop schemes, a non-EU seller of B2C digital services files one quarterly OSS return instead of registering in every member state. IOSS covers imported goods in consignments at or under EUR 150 and files monthly. Commenda, Anrok, Avalara, Numeral, Sphere, Fonoa, Vertex and Sovos all cover VAT. Read the difference between VAT and sales tax first.
How do you choose AI tax software for a Campfire business?
Start with where you owe tax, not with which logo is on Campfire’s integrations page. Map your entities, currencies and customer locations. Then check whether a vendor covers registration and filing in every one of those places, or only calculation. Calculation without filing leaves the hardest work with your team.
What if you sell only in the United States?
Pick a native Campfire partner. Anrok, Avalara, Numeral, Sphere and Taxwire all journalize into Campfire without custom work. Check exposure against the state-by-state economic nexus thresholds first, since most states trigger at $100,000 in sales or 200 transactions.
What if you have entities and customers outside the US?
Pick a vendor that registers and files abroad, not one that only calculates. Commenda covers 70+ countries including OSS and IOSS. Anrok covers 150+ countries, Numeral 70+, Fonoa 100+ jurisdictions. Ask which of those numbers means filing. Anrok is the clearest example of the gap: it states that it files in the US and that local partners handle every other market (anrok.com), so its coverage figure and its filing footprint are different footprints.
What if you are already at enterprise scale?
Look at Vertex or Sovos, and accept that neither connects to Campfire natively. Vertex covers 20,000+ jurisdictions across 195 countries. Sovos covers roughly 200 countries and processed 16 billion transactions last fiscal year. Both assume an in-house tax function. Without one, a managed vendor costs less time.
When does Commenda make sense for Campfire?
Commenda makes sense when Campfire’s five-partner list does not cover where you owe tax. Commenda’s global indirect tax platform monitors nexus in all 50 US states and 70+ countries, registers your entities, files returns, remits payments, and posts the liability back to your ledger. It typically replaces 3 to 5 vendors.
Look up a rate with the sales tax calculator and check exposure with the US nexus guide, since the calculator returns rates and not exposure.
How does Commenda work on top of Campfire data?
Commenda has a page for Campfire users. It explains how sales tax and global VAT run on the transaction data already in your Campfire ledger, and what the integration covers. Read sales tax and global VAT software for Campfire.
